London: Robert Hardwicke, 1862. recently rebacked copy with new endpapers and green buckram spine, surviving part of original spine glued on, attractive gilt-decorated front cover, rear board decorated in blind, 324 pages, all edges gilt, with 25 hand-coloured plates illustrating hundreds of species, some foxing and browning affecting foredge and occasionally at spine edges of text, but overall a clean sound copy. Book is undated, but other sellers mention 1862. Sowerby's Plate 2 is signed and dated August 1861.. Fifth Edition.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Sowerby, John E.. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
