New York: Simon and Schuster, (1966). First edition. Octavo (8.25" x 5.75"), 223 pages. Publisher's gilt lettered gray/ blue cloth, in pictorial dust jacket.
Margins lightly sunned, otherwise fine in very good dust jacket with moderate edge wear including shallow losses at the spine extremities, minor creasing, & a couple of short, closed tears.
The last of Bowles's four novels which he characterized in 1968 as his best "because it's the best written. After all, what one writes for is to write well, to use the language well, to make the words tell the most they can, in the smallest number ..."
