Philadelphia: Anthony Finley, 1827. Conrad Malte-Brun (1775-1826) was a Danish geographer who had been exiled to France in violation of a censorship law. He is credited with coining the designation of "Oceania." Here is an early American printing, perhaps three years after the First Edition. This is Volume II only, which contains Sections [called "Books"] 38-66, including the six regarding Oceania. Leather tree calf binding with titling and ruling in gilt on the spine. Clean text, but toned and spotted throughout. [The 529 pages still remain clear to read]. Rubbed at the margins, and the covers have cracked, with the front just barely hanging on. Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repairs or restoration. . Later Printing. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
