About This Item

Auburn: James M. Alden, 1850. Octavo. Original dark blue blind-stamped cloth with gold gilt lettering and decorations stamped to the spine. Marbled edges. Illustrated with black and white engravings and a single page map. Some wear to the boards and along the edges of the boards. Toning to textblock edges. Occasional spot of foxing throughout. Previous owner's name to the front pastedown. A tight copy with the amount of browning one would expect from an American book of this age. Broken down into different sections, this book provides an exhaustive look at the various explorations undertaken by Captain Wilkes, Admiral d'Urville, Captain Ross and Lieutenant Lynch. 1850
