[Np: The Photographer, ca. 1963].. Original glossy double-weight gelatin silver print from negative, 14 x 11" (inclusive of margins, actual image area 10 1/2 x 9 1/2"). Numbered in pencil on verso. About fine. An original print of one of the sequence of superb photographs taken by Yousuf Karsh on location in South Africa during the filming of the 1964 Diamond Films production, ZULU, directed by Cy Endfield. Karsh's invitation to join the production and photograph the cast and locale resulted in a sequence of photographs of a very high order. The present image is a strong 3/4 profile portrait of a Zulu tribesman in tribal dress. The image is identified as "No. 564" in the series. Although this project is not as widely known as Karsh's formal portraiture, examples of the resulting images have featured prominently in both museum and print retrospectives of his career.

1861 Japanese Woodblock Print Shaka Hasso Buddha Deity Samurai Color IllustratedA rare, 19th-century Japanese woodblock print of 'Shaka Hassou Yamato Bunko." "Shaka Hassou Yamato Bunko" is a biography of Buddha written by Mantei Oga and illustrated by Ichiyousai Toyokuni. Buddhism originated in Northern India, or present-day Nepal where the historical Buddha (Prince Siddhartha, Gautama Buddha), was born and lived. When Buddhism arrived in Japan, Siddhartha became known in Japan as Shaka or Shakamuni. Stories of Shaka's life were commonly told through selecting eight events to represent his life. This 'Shaka Hassou,' was aimed at the general populace, using the "eight phases" as a device to teach the important points of Shaka's life as well as a means of entertainment.
This rare 1861 edition is written in the typical handwritten column format with illustrations of weapons, battles, animals, samurai, courtesans, bodhisattvas, scenery, demons, and more!

"Honest and reliable service - every book hand-packaged with care."
Like a spontaneous cascade of wisdom nectar, the open and natural words of Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, uncomplicated by scholarly elaboration, flow here in the tradition of the direct transmissions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the past. Through commentary on the Preliminary Practices (Ngöndrö) prayer from the treasure text of the great master Tragtung Düdjom Lingpa, insights into many central practices emerge in order to deepen understanding of the foundations of Vajrayana Buddhism. Also included in the book is a commentary on the Tsok Khang Dechen (Assembly Palace of Great Exaltation), the root text prayer of the second Kyabje Düdjom Rinpoche, Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje.
