About This Item

New York: Macmillan Company, 1971. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/very good-. 8vo. xviii, 366 pp. Bound in full red cloth stamped in gilt and black on spine in illustrated dust jacket. Black and white photographs. Includes index. Inscribed by author on front free endpaper: "To Arron (sic) Rabinowitz/with congratulations and/best wishes for his/success in putting the/right person in the/Hall of Fame!/from Helen Hall." Aaron Rabinowitz, a prominent New York City real estate developer and philanthropist, was a client of Henry Street Settlement when he emigrated from Russia in 1884. He was a steadfast admirer of Henry Street Settlement founder Lillian Wald. The inscription from Hall, Henry Street Settlement's second director, likely refers to Rabinowitz's efforts to have Wald inducted into New York University's Hall of Fame for Great Americans. Very Good, foxing to top edge, minor age-toning to pages, otherwise clean, light sunning and wear to extremities of binding, in Very Good- dust jacket with sunning to spine, wear to extremities, foxing to verso. Lovely presentation copy.
