About This Item

Hamburg, Rauhen Hauses, 1846. 4to (25.8 x 21.1 cm). 16 pp. four lithographed plates. Disbound. = Important contribution by the German zoologist Hermann Friedrich Stannius (1808-1883) to the knowledge of the anatomy and morphology of the brain in dolphins, which are remarkeably similar to those in the higher primates. Well illustrated. Stannius is otherwise known for his entomological work, mainly on Diptera, and as a pharmacologist. He was co-author (with Von Siebold) of the Lehrbuch der vergleichenden Anatomie der Wirbeltiere. The present publication was published in the rare first volume of the Hamburg Natural History Journal Abhandlungen aus dem gebiete der Naturwissenschaften. One plate with some marginal spotting, otherwise a very good clean copy. Rare.
