About This Item
Two remarkable black and white photographs taken in Los Angeles during the visits of Roosevelt, his friend Meyer Lissner, Frank Daggett, the Director of the Exposition Park Museum, and Frank Shearer. Each photo identifies the four men with the date in pencil on the reverse. The first photograph shows the four leaving the museum. The second shows the four with same exact identification with the letter "g" [unidentified] and also adds "goodbye". The Los Angeles Evening Express writes that they had begun the day at 6 A.M. to visit the La Brea tar pits (note: the newspaper adds a racial joke about an African American man who approached the Colonel). The article notes he was accompanied by Meyer Lissner, Frank Daggett, and F. Shearer. Several asked TR if he had found a "bull moose" skeleton. Once they got to the station, he was met by his old army friends "among them being Capt. J.H. McClintock of Phoenix, Ariz., one of the Rough Riders. [also, McClintock is known for his 3 vol. Arizona History and other works].
