About This Item
New York, NY: G. P. Putnam & Sons. 1988. First Edition USA, (1988) so stated. First printing indicated by a . complete numerical sequence. Hardcover. First Edition USA, (1988) so stated. First printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. Very Good+ in Near Fine DJ: The Book shows minimal wear; a hint of crimp to the heel of the backstrip; "P" rubber stamped at the top edge of the text block; the text pages have tanned very slightly, due to aging; the binding secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome, nearly-new reading copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing a hint of wear and a couple of cosmetic flaws. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to 'As New'. The DJ shows only the mildest rubbing to the panels; price intact; mylar-protected. Intact and attractive. NOT a Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.8 x 5.85 x 1.15 inches) . 287 pages. Language: English. Weight: 18.2 ounces. Hardback with DJ. I've been a fan of Thea Astley for decades and highly recommend that you take a look at her work. Sadly, Thea is no longer with us (she died in 2004) , but her work lives on and can be appreciated by everyone with an interest in classy literature. Try A Kindness Cup and The Accolyte. Most of her works are set in Queensland, Australia, and depict Australian culture and society at its highest and lowest points and most places in between. Thea won four Miles Franklin Literary Awards during her career - the Miles Franklin is one of Australia's most prestigious lit awards. They were well deserved. Rumour has it that she was asked to stop entering the award because she was too good! ! In any case, her work speaks for itself. .
