London: George Allen & Unwin, 1920. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/Very Good. Signed presentation copy from English artist William Rothenstein to his daughter in 1920 (the year of the book's publication) with the inscription "for my darling Betty from her beloved dads - Xmas 1920." Limited first edition (2000 copies total) of 24 portrait drawings by Rothenstein of his prominent friends and contemporaries, including Joseph Conrad, Andre Gide, Thomas Hardy, T.E. Lawrence, George Bernard Shaw and H.G Wells. 10" x 6.75". Rothenstein describes the book as "an act of homage to those who give rather than take" and includes biographical sketches written by friends with each portrait. Very good+ condition. Very good dust jacket with some edgewear and chips and vertical tear at spine (see photo). Protected in mylar wrapper. Scarce with dust jacket and artist signature.
