My endeavor has been to give the story in a simple form and to use the Appendix for the statistics which should be recorded at a Twenty-fifth Anniversary.' (Foreword). Signed by author Wister, the first (and, at that time, only) President of the Symphony Alexander Van Renssalaer and legendary conductor Leopold Stowkowski. The author was a prominent Philadelphia philanthropist and preservationist (and cousin of author Owen Wister of 'The Virginian' fame), Director of the Orchestra and Chair the Women's Committee of the Orchestra; Van Renssalaer was one of the founders of the Symphony; Leopold Stowkowski was one of the leading conductors of the early and mid-20th century.
