About This Item

Livermore, Iowa, 1953. [Presumed first and only contemporary printing]. Paperback. Very Good. several small black & white photos (we counted 22), 85p. Softcover in original wrapper. 21cm. Some cover browning. Her husband accepted a teaching job at Luther College, a private school for African Americans in New Orleans, in 1924. The school closed the next year and Luecke accepted a call at Mt. Zion Church in New Orleans where they labored for about 25 years in some capacity before spending a short time in Selma, Alabama. Her account seems focused more on the white Lutheran Lueckes (the author and husband) rather than their African American parisioners. The period covered is 1924-1952. Those dates appear on the bottom of the front cover but not on the title-page.
