Carter's memoir of his first political campaign and the beginning of his career and life of service. "A suspenseful narrative about a neophyte's harsh introduction to regional politics, the story of Carter's local victory also illuminates the end of the legalized system of white supremacy, rural domination of government and deprivation of civil rights for blacks in the South." (Publishers Weekly). Illustrated with 16 pages of photographs. Near fine in original grey cloth boards with green cloth spine, just a tad sunned. Lettering in gilt. Dust jacket near fine showing very slight edgewear and long the lower spine, with no tears or chips on the pictorial jacket covers. Octavo, xxv, 223pp. A wonderful copy.
