About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1951. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 5 5/8 X 8 1/8 Inches. 272 PP. First printing copy of this early history of the Oak Island Treasure as well as wrecks in Bermuda and the Cape Cod sinking of the Pirate Ship Whidah. Signed and inscribed by author to early explorer of the Whidah, John Francis Light. Light, who was a teenager when he started studying the Whidah wreck, never located the treasure. It was found by Barry Clifford in 1984. Very early signature from the year of publication. Light's account of the shipwreck and his discoveries are a major part of the book itself. This book is also the FIRST APPEARANCE OF KEMPTON'S cipher translated as "Forty feet below, two million pounds lie buried" IN REGARDS TO THE OAK ISLAND TREASURE! A scarce and very important copy with possibly the finest provenance that any copy could have.

Light toning and some tearing to final few pages that uncut and later pulled apart (I would assume by Light who wanted the finish reading the book.) Original price of $3.00 on front flap. Wear and minor chipping to DJ edges. Spine sunned.
