About This Item

Toronto: Macfadden Magazines of Canada, 1933. Magazine. Fair to Good. Magazine. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Vintage true crime magazine boasting the kind of blood-and-guts sensationalism without which our lives would be duller than dirt. This issue features articles on solving the Boettcher kidnapping, the capture of Barton "The Chopper", the truth about Sterling Wyman (apparently it's astounding), something called the crimson crime aboard a yacht, a hold-up on a Canadian Pacific train, the fourth part in a series about the mysterious Bluebeard murders, Folsom's most hated criminal, and much else, including a piece by Clara C. Walters, who at the time was warden of the Oklahoma State Reformatory, making her the only woman in the United States to serve in that capacity. 112 pages, illustrated. The cover looks like the work of Dalton Stevens, TDM's frequent cover illustrator, but since it's uncredited and there's no signature, I'm not going to claim it as his. Strongly cocked, edgewear, creasing, short edge tears, 1.5" tear to bottom spine edge, some chipping to spine ends, general handling wear. Not in collectible condition, but with a bit of care will endure for more than the (as of this writing) 89 years it already has. Scarce..
