Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 212 x 137mm. A novel, set in World War Two. "All the characters in this book are, in part at least, the product of my imagination. All the incidents have a foundation in fact though they concern half a hundred different New Zealand units. [. . .] It was writter mostly between October 1942 and January 1942 on the march from Alamein to Tripoli, scribbled in dust storms behind the doubtful protection of a 'bivvy' tent; during march halts, often under shell-fire, sandwiched between fire orders, and corrected after dusk by the dim light of a truck lamp." - from the author's note. .
