Laporte, IN: Herald Print, (1901). First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 355p octavo. An important history of the Barbary Pirates by the first Consul to Tripoli and including last letters from Tunis compiled by his daughter. This book, written in the late 18th century, is here finally published in 1901 by the grand children of James Cathcart. A unique copy as this copy is inscribed by James H Peabody to his son in 1912 encouraging him "to read this correspondenceof one of the bravest and best men I ever knew". Peabody was the son of Amelia Humphries Cathcart, one of James Cathacrt's daughters. Additionally laid in is a 22 line letter in manuscript outlining certain pages in the text for his son to read. Unique copy.
