Michael Joseph, London, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Poor. Illustrator: Charles Gorham -- Cover Art. Brown coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. A little rubbing and bumping to the backstrip edges and book corners. Rubbing to the top edge of the book panels. Browning and foxing to the text block edges and to the endpapers. Light age toning of the internal text. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Previous owner's name to the top right-hand corner of the free front end paper. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, by Charles Gorham, with black and white titles to the front panel and blue-and-black titles to the backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of the author to the rear dustwrapper panel. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. There is a 2.25 " tear into to the top left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel. A small piece is missing from the top edge of the front dustwrapper panel and leading down from that is a line of fading, the full length of the dustwrapper, as if a marker stripe has been removed. Rubbing, staining and some handing marks to the dustwrapper panels. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. There is browning, foxing and staining to the verso of the dustwrapper. In this story a captain of a Spanish ship has to make the decision whether or not to take on board some American survivors of a blizzard. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
