A sort of concise American version of "Bean" with tabulated information for each species on its habit, autumn colour, foliage and preferred habitat followed by lists of varieties. Each genus is introduced with general information on its horticultural merit. Keys based on foliage characters are provided, and the book is well illustrated in monochrome. viii, 502 pp., map of hardiness zones of contiguous USA and Canada on end papers.
