This book belonged to Mr. Beecher (Henry Ward Beecher was an American Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer, and speaker, known for his support of the abolition of slavery). Signed by Henry Ward Beecher on verso front free endpaper, pencil notes on 2nd front free endpaper state that book was bought from son of Henry Ward Beecher. Very Good, 5 raised bands, 6 compartments, title in gilt on 2nd to top compartment, decorative design all other compartments, moderate wear/rub marks along board edges, some loss to spine tips/tops, marbled endpapers/pastedowns, front free endpaper half way separated from binding but still attached, lightly sunned pages, binding sturdy, deckle fore-edge, TEG with few blemishes, small soiled spot with small abrasion to front board, moderate rub marks to rear board, some loss to leather board corners, without Dust wrapper.
