About This Item

London:: Butterworths,, 1860.. First edition.. 396pp, followed by a 24-page list of Law Works from the publisher. There are a couple of dog-ear creases, but the text is otherwise unmarked. The upper halves of both the title page and the succeeding page (The Preface) have unfortunately been torn away: the title page has been neatly made good with blank card. Early ownership name to half title. Publishers' ads to endpapers, and a London bookseller (Wildy's) recent small bright label at the foot of the front pastedown. The inner joints have been professionally repaired. In the original binding of brown diced cloth, firm, but rubbed, marked, and dulled. Spine titled gilt and professionally relaid, ends made good: board edges showing wear, upper corners fraying. Scarce.

About Chapel Books

I sell books from a large disused Chapel next to the village duck pond, where I have lived about 40 years: just inland from Dunwich and between Southwold and Aldeburgh. I open 7 days a week, 12-5.
