New York, McGraw-Hill Book Company, [1975], First American edition. . original cloth, gilt spine title lettering, dj (slightly used with short tear on rear panel, not price clipped), fine and clean in very good jacket. . small 4to [24 x 17 cm]; unpaginated, 118 plates including 33 in color, bibliography, index of persons, index of plants. . The author, a leading authority of the history of plants, selected the illustrations from old printed books, periodicals and in some cases from unpublished works, from botanical art that was done from the late fifteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries. Complementary to her previous, The Book of Flowers, with illustrations from early folios, this book concentrates on works done on a smaller scale, but still finely done, and well-presented with numerous illustrations from original sources.
