New York: L. Riley, 1809. First edition. Three octavo volumes; xi, [1], 330; vi, 309, [1]; vi, 312 pp. Contemporary quarter roan over marbled boards, smooth spines with gilt rules, devices and lettering. Vol. 1; front hinge cracked, lacking rear endpaper, inserted in the rear is a printed leaf of 'Catalogue No. 1, Franklin Circulating Library, 'Circulating Library' stamp to title page. Vol II; same stamp on title page, corner of last text leaf torn out (only affecting about three words, remnant of bookplate (of a circulating library. Vol III; lacks front and rear endpaper, same stamp on title and remains of bookplate. General browning to text (as usual). A good copy onlyDuring 1807 and 1808, Kendall travelled through the northern parts of the United States of America, as a result of which he published his historically important three-volume topographical dictionary. Kendall went on to become an influential writer of children's books.
