First Octavo Edition (originally published Glasgow: 1763, in 4to.). A British expatriate, Bell accompanied the embassies of Peter the Great to Ispahan in Persia in 1715-18, to Peking in China through Siberia in 1719-21, to Derbent in Persia in 1722, and to Constantinople in 1737-38. In addition to accounts of these travels, which contain full and interesting descriptions of the countries visited and the manners and customs of the inhabitants, the present narrative also includes a translation of De Lange's journal relating to the court of Peking in 1721-22.
