New York: Harrison Smith & Robert Haas, 1934. First English language edition. Pictorial Boards. Very Good +. Translated by Merle Haas. True first edition, later republished by Random House after merging with Smith and Haas. The Babar books were noted for being some of the first oversized children's books, with the text printed in cursive writing and the water color and line paintings in spacious double-page spreads. Cover edges rubbed, heel of red cloth spine has small rip and missing a small piece, back cover has small scratches. Interior unmarked with only very very slight soiling, A few pages beginning to split, lacking the elusive rare envelope-style dustjacket.
