Quarto. 674pp., 1 folding map, 696pp. 1 folding map. original tan cloth with blue lettering on cover, gilt lettering on blue labels of spine. Blue top edge. Frontispiece. Publisher's device on title page. Originally published in 1888 without much immediate influence, Doughty's writings slowly became synonym for ambitious travel writing and was rediscovered by T. E. Lawrence and republished in 1920 with an introduction by Lawrence. The books is an all but encyclopedic account of Doughty's treks and discoveries in the Arabian deserts. Illustrated with numerous b/w drawings and maps. Binding slightly rubbed and sunned at spines. Block uncut at bottom and foredge. Starting at page 19 of volume one. Lacking slipcase. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition.
