About This Item
Santa Fe Railroad. Chicago., 1902 Book size about 8 by 10 inches with some 12 pages. Illustrated and decorated string tied pale green wraps in an Art Nouveau style. Book consists of a publisher 'Announcement' inside the front cover extolling the virtues of Santa Fe sleeper service to the West Coast followed by 12 full page photos of sleeper cars (Printed on one side of each page) -- mostly interior pictures. Flap of rear cover lists Elmer Willis and E J Hall as the photographers and notes that this is the Thirty-Seventh Thousand. Another note at the bottom of the flap shows the printers as The Henry O Shepard Co. of Chicago--they printed ten thousand copies of this booklet on August 8, 1902. Very scarce book today showing in detail what it was like to travel by rail at the turn-of-the-century in a Pullman Sleeper Car. Covers with heavy spine wear; bit of insect nibbling at the first couple of page edges; string has cut through the paper at the bottom tie. Interior photos are all impeccable.
