About This Item

New York, New York: Whitman, 1913. First Thus . Hardcover. Good/Good. Chamber, J.. Book #6 in the 9-volume "Great Marvel" series (which ran 1906-1935) by "Roy Rockwood'' (best known for his "Bomba the Jungle Boy" series), one of the pseudonyms used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. One in a large series of mystery & adventure books originally released or reissued by this publisher for young adult (YA) boys & girls in the early decades of the 20th century, this series was a sci-fi one in the style of the wildly popular Jules Verne (Keeline, 2000). Orig. published in 1913 by Cupples & Leon, this is the First Edition from Whitman (#2348. First, thus), in 246 pages + 2 pages of other Whitman title sin rear, plain frontispiece. Hardcover small 8vo has bright orange cloth-covered boards stamped with black lettering to front & spine. Condition is just Good, downgraded due to dampstain to outer-upper quadrant of front cover that bleeds slightly onto front endpapers. Front hinge is cracked, text block secure. Pages significantly tanned, heavier to edges, but unmarked. Moderate rubbing to extremities & bumped corners. The unclipped DJ is also Good: stained on the back, but doesn't affect the brilliant front cover image (by J. Chambers?) that wraps around spine, which is colorful & bright. Marred by chipping & rubbing to corners & extremities; beautifully protected in new clear mylar cover for your collection! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
