Tall, slender 8vo, light red boards with gold lettering on spine, archival mylar-protected pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) depicting a Chinese emperor with left arm and finger pointing toward heaven; illustrated by Julian Jusim, [32] pages simuilating parchment. Isaac Bashevis Singer (1902 - 1991) was a Polish-born Jewish writer in Yiddish, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978. He was also awarded two U.S. National Book Awards, one in Children's Literature for his memoir A Day Of Pleasure: Stories of a Boy Growing Up in Warsaw (1970). Julian Jusim is a Russian-born illustrator now living and working in Germany. The Topsy-Turvy Emperor of China was first published in America by Harper & Row in 1971. The Julian Jusim first illustrated edition was published in Germany in 1993 as Der Kaiser von China.
