Focusing on human responses to environment, Dr. Tuan examines them and the accompanying perceptions and value judgements on the grouip, specie, and individual levels. He distinguishes between culture and environment, and topophilia and environment, and illustrates their mutual contributions to value formation. Assuming a dialectical perspective, the author discusses the search for environment in the city, suburb, countryside, and wilderness. (jacket front flap).
