New York: Ballantine Books, 1979. First US Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fair. A must for the Tolkien completist. Illustrated by Ian Miller, Michael Foreman, Allan Curless, Lidia Postma, John Blanche, Pauline Martin, Sue Porter, Linda Garland, Jaroslav Bradac, Victor Ambrus and John Davis. In beige cloth with brown type. Sharp corners, clean interior and solid binding. Jacket is unclipped ($19.95) with large jagged chip to bottom of rear panel with associated tear - about 1 1/2 inches high and about 4 inches across. Four other tears 1/2 - 2 inches to top of rear panel, top of front flap, head of spine and some small chips to spine ends. Will be in jacket protector.
