Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation, for a book of its 10+ year-old age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral p/back book.It is only the minimal fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that it really is still an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness and lack of other detracting faults. Tintin, the young reporter, has become a worldwide cartoon phenomenon, rivalled only by Asterix, a cult with a following among adults and children alike. How did this apparently simple character gain such a hold? What is the secret of his appeal? And what was his shadowy creator - Georges Remi, "Herge", really like? Harry Thompson, a lifelong Tintin fan, has written a dual biography. On the one hand he charts Tintin's progress from a doodle on a school exercise book during World War I to the young reporter used first for propaganda, then for political satire under the guise of adventure stories, into character comedy and even on to the moon, well ahead of real-life astronauts. And on the other he tells of a strongly moral man, the researcher and perfectionist, who turned himself into a great artist through sheer effort and travelled the world, escaping from the boredom of a desk-job in Brussels. He examines accusations against Remi of collaboration during the last war, his wariness in relationships, and his loss of creativity. George Prosper Remi (b. 22nd May,1907 – d. 3rd March,1983),known by the pen name "Herge" from the French pronunciation of his reversed initials RG, was a Belgian comic strip artist. Best known for creating The Adventures of Tintin, the series of 24 comic albums which are considered one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. In 1925,he joined the Catholic newspaper 'Le XX Siecle' for which he created the boy-reporter-cum-detective, Tintin. The character first appeared in the children's supplement,'Le Petit Vingtieme',in 1929,in a story entitled 'Tintin ay Pays de Soviets'.This was published in book form in 1930.The first of the books to appear in English were 'The Crab with the Golden Claws' and 'King Ottokar's Sceptre',which were published simultaneously in 1958. He was also responsible for two other well-known series, Quick & Flupke (1930–1940) and The Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko (1936–1957).

Harry Thompson is the inventor and editor of many TV comedy series including Have I Got News For You and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He is the author of acclaimed bestsellers, including 'Peter Cook: A Biography' - see my book ID rja498414 for a UK,8vo HB+dw/dj example. His most recent book is a historical novel, 'This Thing of Darkness'. He worked as a producer at Talkback TV and in his spare time ran an infamous cricket team,' the Captain Scott XI.
