About This Item

Harper & Row / Reader's Digest, 1978. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Near Fine+/Near Fine+ in Archival Plastic Cover. A lovely First Edition (so stated) of Betty Ford's first book, inscribed by her on the front free endpaper (To Gene Crismon, My warmest wishes, Betty Ford, Sept. 22, 1987). In fine cream cloth but for three light spots on the front cover, very minor. The interior is clean and bright. The dustjacket is complete with the original price ($10.95) and is in fine condition but for (possible) slight lightening to the spine, also very minor. Protected by an archival plastic cover. While in the White House, Mrs. Gerald R. (Betty) Ford was an outspoken pioneer and crusader in addressing issues of addiction, women's rights and cancer treatment, having suffered addiction to painkillers, alcoholism and breast cancer. This book is her autobiography of her time in the White House and shortly after, that concludes in 1978 with her family's intervention and her treatment at the Long Beach Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Service. Her second book, "A Glad Awakening," published in 1987, basically picks up where this book leaves off. A lovely copy signed by an admirable woman.
