About This Item
Virago, London, 1987. Reprint. Softcover. Very Good Condition. Introduction and acknowledgements by author, to appendices, notes and bibliography. Colour illustrated paperback binding with peach coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. 3 working class VIII-year-old girls write a story, about the house that will live in one day, about the loving motherhood and pattern of life they expect to inherit. The author analyses this document using her remarkable perceptions of children's writing and their expectations of the world, as well as literature, linguistics, theories of education and history, to come to her highly original and controversial conclusions on how children confront the way things are and imagine the way things might be. The book includes appendices of reproductions of the pages of Tidy House. Creasing of the book corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Light tanning of the text block edges and pages. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 272 pages. The book is a very good secondhand book with reading creases to the spine, and darkening of the page edges, and bookseller sticker on the rear panel..
