About This Item

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1957. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's mid-blue boards with gilt spine lettering. A near fine copy in a D/W that is VG indeed (priced 12s 6d net to the inside flap as called for). The D/W has a couple of tiny chips at the head of the spine and another slightly bigger chip one to the bottom edge of the back panel. None of the chips affect any lettering. There is a partial, vertical crease to the back panel. A strange, tense and fast-moving novel set in the Pyrenees. From Contemporary Authors, Vol. 1, 1967: Mary. Stewart once claimed Thunder on the Right as her least favourite novel. “I detest that book. I’m ashamed of it, and I’d like to see it drowned beyond recovery. It’s overwritten. It was actually the second book I wrote, and for some strange reason I went overboard, splurged with adjectives, all coloured purple.” Notwithstanding the Author's negativity towards this title, the first edition is genuinely uncommon and this is a nice copy. Photographs/scans available upon request.
