Fold-out Map (New condition) of Schema da Cartado do Brazil, Mostrando o Internerario da Roosevelt-Rodon of 1914 to rear. First published 1914; this is a reprint of 1920. Travelogue of sportsman and 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt's (1858 - 1919) participation in a scientific exploration in Brazilian hinterlands with co-leader Colonel Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon; an expedition which took place on the completion of the presidential term. The Foreword is penned by the President's grandson, Tweed Roosevelt. from whom we learn his grandfather was in ill health during the trip though no mention is made in the journal. 10 chapters: I, The Start; II, Up the Paraguay; III, A Jaguar-Hunt on the Taquary; IV, The Heawaters of the Paraguay; V, Up the River of Tapirs; VI, Through the Highland Wilderness of Western Brazil; VII, With a Mule-Train Across Nhambiquara Land; VIII, The River of Doubt; IX, Down an Unknown River into the Equatorial Forest; and, X, To the Amazon & Home: Zoological & Geographical Results of the Expedition, followed by 3 appendices.
