About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1966. First Edition. Hardcover with dust jacket. Fine/Very Good. Carl Smith (dust jacket design). 4to. Pp. [6], 7-222. Glossary. Bibliography. Index. Bound in light brown cloth with gilt lettering stamped on spine. In the printed dust jacket that shows just slight wear to edges; price of $7.50 intact on the front flap. Printed Simon and Schuster card laid-in: "With the Compliments of the Author." Ross was long interested in Asian culture, perhaps introduced to the subject by the Pacific Northwest artists she befriended in the 1940s. Among them, Morris Graves, whom Ross posited as a thinly-veiled figure in her novel I, My Ancestor. Both Graves and Mark Tobey are mentioned in the text among artists and writers influenced by Zen thought.

Dust jacket is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
