First printing, very good + hardcover shows very faint stain and bit of soil at page egdes, else tight and clean, in very good dust jacket (price at flap) that shows a wrinkle running length of front flap and inch and a half wide circular stain at top edge of rear panel. 455 pages with black & white illustrations, index and endpaper maps. Still a solid copy in jacket of this work that "..traces the history of archaeology from an amateur pursuit to the cutting-edge science it is today by taking the reader on a tour of major archaeological sites and discoveries, from Pompei to Petra.
