About This Item

Chicago and elsewhere: University of Chicago Press, 1996. Paperback. Very Good +. One paperback book, two SIGNED pamphlets, and two handwritten LETTERS by political theorist and legal scholar Carl Schmitt.
"The Concept of the Political," Schmitt's most influential work, presents a critique of modern liberalism and lays out his formulation of the state of exception, whereby the head of state can transcend the rule of law in the name of the public good. (George Schwab, trans; Includes Leo Strauss's notes on Schmitt's essay)

"Nehmen/Teilen/Weiden" ("Appropriation/Distribution/Production: An Attempt to Determine from Nomos the Basic Questions of Every Social and Economic Order") is a small pamphlet in German with a dated inscription by Schmitt to Harry Neumann, a conservative political scholar who taught at Scripps College and the Claremont Graduate University in California.

The third book, by political theorist Ion X. Contiades, is in Greek, and is inscribed in Greek by Schmitt to Harry Neumann. The letters, both long, are handwritten in blue ink; one is in English (dated 1971), the other is in German (dated 1970). Both are in envelopes addressed to Professor Harry Neumann.

All material is in Very Good condition. Please inquire for more information, if needed.
