About This Item

[Thailand]: No Publisher, 19th C.. Hardcover. Near Fine. 8vo (measures 3.75" x 6.25"). With 22 panels of hand-painted color illustrations on one leaf, accordion fold. Bound in wood boards carved with decorative flourishes, and two elephants per cover, stained black and red. The crenellated borders with two half-inch gaps. Fore-edges of both sides (folds) are a tad worn. The date listed here is due to the website requirement for an exact date and should not be construed as precise. Allegorical themes comprise the essence of the manuscript, with Thai script accompaniment on all panels. Native Thai animals are depicted, as well as mythological creatures: Elephant, peacock, sloth, knife-wielding dragon, a whirling, choreographed dancer, with knives, a tiger with mustache, a creature with a table of figures for a face, etc., all populate a lively manuscript, with bright colors. Rare. Please inquire for additional photos.
