About This Item

Lyon, Jean Crespin, 1529. One beautiful title page in black and red within engraved border, and 3 large woodcuts (one at the beginning of the text, another at folio CXXIX and another almost full page (folio CCXXII) showing the Nativity. 6 pages showing the canons of Eusebius of Caesarea, printed in black and red are partly engraved (f. CCIX and following). Delaveau and Baudrier describe this edition as bearing the printer mark of Vincent de Portonariis on the title, but this is not the case here, therefore it is another edition or a different issue. Delaveau, Hillard, Bibles imprimées ... conservées à Paris N ° 819 (only one copy). Baudrier, Bibliographie lyonnaise V, 434 quotes this edition from one Rosenthal bookshop's catalog. Last folio blank is missing. Binding repaired, particulary first hinge, small worm holes. Beautiful copy of this illustrated large Bible. - -.
