Leningrad: Огиз-Молодая ГВардия (Ogiz-Molodaya Gvardiya), 1931. Third edition. Softcover. vg-. Square octavo. Unpaginated. [8]. Illustrated white (sunned) wrappers, with orange and black lettering on the covers. The work is a poetic children's book dealing with a group of animals who live in and around an old oak tree. The work is illustrated throughout with charming images by acclaimed illustrator Yevgeny Charushin. Charushin's work printed lithographically in earthy hues of orange, brown, tan, black and grey. This is a scarce third edition of the work originally published in 1929. Text in Russian.
Wrappers with sunning, and some light smudges to the covers. A Few light stains on the back cover. Minor rubbing to corners. Interior with some vertical creases on the third page. Wrappers and interior in very good- condition overall. Wrappers protected with modern mylar. Vitaly Valentinovich Bainki (1894-1959) was a Russian writer and author of many children's books. His works often dealt with animals or natural themes.
Yevgeny Ivanovich Charushin (1901-1965) was a Russian illustrator and author of children's literature. He graduated from the Russian Academy of Arts in Petrograd in 1926. Starting in 1928, he started to illustrate books by various acclaimed Russian authors as well as his own children's books.
