About This Item
2005. Very Good. A most interesting collection of ephemera from the history of tennis in Great Britain, including:
1 Correspondence from and to CW Banks, a Chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association in England, relating to his public embarrassment over a 1956 speech he gave, in which he made an unfortunate reference to the Royal Family As one letter shows, it cost him the nomination to the chairmanship that year He did become Chairman, however, five years later
2 A group of vintage photos some of Banks, but mostly of others in the tennis world The oldest is dated 1919
3 The 2005 auction catalog from Christie's of the Railing Tennis Collection, one of the greatest private tennis collections in history, along with the lot results realized Fine condition
4 A Wallis Myers, A testament to tennis, A Tribute by Prue Wallis Myers A biography of her father, (1878-1939) who was a reporter, author and dedicated supporter of lawn tennis, and was instrumental in helping it develop into a popular worldwide sport
5 A group of newspaper obituaries of CW Banks, with clipping service tickets still attached
It would appear that this collection likely came from the estate of the Banks family
