About This Item
Cassell and Company, Ltd, London, New York, Toronto and Melbourne, 1922. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Green coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured decoration to the edge of the front panel and back strip, with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A novel of the First World War as seen by young men. The first part being their school years (being lauded as happy); then on to the second part about the first excitement of enlisting in the army, and, then the brutal reality of trench warfare takes over the book. The book ends on the Western front in 1918, on the cusp of the war's end, but, the fate of the narrator is left un-stated. The book is showing age and wear. Rubbing and softening of the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners. All book edges show rubbing as do the panels. Some marks and fading of the back strip with noticeable cocking of the spine. Uniform tanning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners details to the top edge of the front paste-down; and, gift inscription (which has ghosted onto the half title page) to the top edge of the free front end page. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Quite noticeable offset tanning to the half title page. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [7], VIII, 320 pages,.
