About This Item

[TED STONE/THEODORE SILBERSTEIN WWII ERA 58 WARSHIP PHOTOGRAPHS POST-CARD SIZE WITH STAMPS ON BACK] TED STONE/THEODORE SILBERSTEIN ALBUM OF 58 POSTCARD SIZE/3-1/2" x 5-1/2" PHOTOGRAPHS OF UNITED STATES BRITAIN FRANCE WARSHIPS OF ALL TYPES INCLUDING EARLY AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND SUBMARINES taken by the noted World War-II era photographer Theodore Silberstein/Ted Stone, 1917-2000, a noted naval photographer who during World War II as a photographer in the U.S. Navy used the name Ted Stone, all in a 9" x 11" photo album two per page except for a few one per page, black-and-white, ships identified by name in the photo or on the back in pencil by the previous owner, on back is the stamp "Theo. N. Silberstein" or longer stamp "Please Credit Photo by Ted Silberstein - This photo for use in your publication only. Not to be copied, loaned, or reproduced without permission", laid inside the front cover by the previous owner is a file card with handwritten "warships which have cross marks in the lower right corner have been sunk during World War II", many of the ships are World War I era types as evidenced by smokestacks, and submarines and aircraft carriers are early models, the real-photo postcards or postcard-size photos presumably were taken by Ted Stone before World War II since he stamps them with the name "Silberstein," although most of the warships saw service in WWII as indicated by a file card laid in by the previous owner of the album with the handwritten note "warships which have cross marks in the lower right corner have been sunk during World War II" (about 6 with crosses); PROVENANCE: acquired at a Fairfield County, CT, estate sale of possessions of a man who was an officer in the U. S. Navy in World War II /// CONDITION: well-preserved, negligible wear to photographs, front page separated and laid in, a few pages partly separated from binding, some slits holding corners of photos torn.
