About This Item
Original cartoon drawing, 53 x 49 cm., on stiff card stock, signed by Bishop. Image depicts a large flag, with a single star in the middle [a Communist flag?] drapped over the world, a lone soldier standing on top of the globe playing taps with his trumpet. Remnants of cello and paper tape on verso. Bishop was born in Keokuk, Iowa. He worked at the Portland Journal as a cartoonist from 1925-29, and the St. Louis Star and Star-Times as an editorial cartoonist, 1929-51, after which he free lanced.
