A scarce edition of this popular Victorian work, by Washington Irving, originally published under his pseudonym, Geoffrey Crayon. A new edition. In a full calf binding from R. Ingalton Drake. A scarce edition of Washington Irving's 'Tales of a Traveller' published originally under his pseudonym, 'Geoffrey Canyon'. A collection of essays and short stories from Irving's European travels, including the well known story 'The Devil and Tom Walker'. Irving is best known for his short stories 'Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' and was admired by notable authors such as Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley and Walter Scott. In a full calf binding with gilt detail. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the extremities and scattered spotting to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot around the first and last pages. Contemporary ink inscription on front blank dated 1883. Small ink spill to fore edge. Very Good
