Clean, larger format, tightly bound hardback book with no inscriptions, in an unclipped dustjacket which is tanned at the spine, chipped and creased at the edges and has repaired short closed tears at the top edge of the front cover. 382 pages, 24 illustrations on plates by Harry Clarke plus vignettes in the text .

Synopsis

Tales of Mystery and Imagination , stories by American author Edgar Allan Poe have been compiled by Padraic Colum into a thrilling collection focused on Poe’s suspenseful stories. The first edition compiled by Padraic Colum was published in 1908 by Geoffrey Newnes Ltd. and includes an introduction by Colum explaining his decision to exclude Poe’s poems, comedies, and essays from the collection. A later 1919 edition, published by George G. Harrap & Co., includes 24 full-page black and white plates by famous illustrator Harry Clarke. An album by The Alan Parsons Project was named after the short story compilation and contains several songs based on the tales included.
