About This Item

London, George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd., 1919 (1st thus). Hardback, approx 11 x 8 inches. In brown morocco full leather fine binding, with decorative gilt paneled front board, and gilt lettering to spine. Plain brown endpapers, top page edges gilt. In very good condition. Edges of boards quite heavily rubbed, small chips to corners. Leather on spine professionally replaced and relaid, with repairs and reinforcement to inner hinges (white cloth tape.) Two small neat previous owners inscriptions to blank prelim before halftitle page. Inside pages all very clean and tight throughout, one or two very minor handling marks. A couple of areas of minor offsetting to one or two text pages, else pages and plates all very clean and tight. 383pp. Illustrations complete with 24 full-page B&W plates (including frontis.) And many small B&W tailpiece vignettes. The first edition of “Tales” to be illustrated by Harry Clarke.
