THIS IS THE 1933 PRINTING, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE 1936 OR LATER REPLICAS OF THIS BOOK THAT WERE PRINTED IN THE 2000S AND ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL 1ST EDITIONS, ALTHOUGH THEY LOOK LIKE IT...
PRINTED & BOUND IN 1933 BY J.J. LITTLE & IVES COMPANY, NEW YORK, THIS IS THE 1ST EDITION BY THIS PUBLISHER
This is one of the most extensive and thorough editions of Poe's Tales of Mystery & Imagination ever printed. Indeed, one of the most lavishly and beautifully illustrated editions of a Poe book ever created and it retains all the original art with no works missing, "Many people liked to remove these and frame them", luckily this one has been well preserved. It includes some of Poe's most monumental works all in one book. This 1933 edition is the real 1st edition from the publisher and not a later remake. I would snag this one before it's gone.
Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allen Poe, published in 193 and illustrated by Harry Clarke. Sections Include Ms. Found in a Bottle, The Assignation, Berenice, Silence, King Pest, A Descent Into the Maelstrom, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in Rue Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Roget, etc. The book features both tipped-in color plates and black & white illustrations by Harry Clarke. There are 29 tales in all, including classics such as "A Descent into Maelstrom," "Ligeia," "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "The Mask of the Red Death," "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Gold Bug," "The Black Cat," "The Oblong Box
The overall condition of this book is good for being 90 years in the making. It does show age, shelf wear, and some reading use. The covers and spine have scratches, fading, blemishes, bumps, and normal shelf wear. The interior pages are naturally age-toned but are in lovely condition. The collection of art is all present with none missing "sometimes hard to find." The binding is tight and strong with everything holding very well. It's 90 years old, thus, it's not perfect, however, it's been well-preserved for its age.
Synopsis
Tales of Mystery and Imagination , stories by American author Edgar Allan Poe have been compiled by Padraic Colum into a thrilling collection focused on Poe’s suspenseful stories. The first edition compiled by Padraic Colum was published in 1908 by Geoffrey Newnes Ltd. and includes an introduction by Colum explaining his decision to exclude Poe’s poems, comedies, and essays from the collection. A later 1919 edition, published by George G. Harrap & Co., includes 24 full-page black and white plates by famous illustrator Harry Clarke. An album by The Alan Parsons Project was named after the short story compilation and contains several songs based on the tales included.
